The two 7-inch color monitors include an auto-bright system that adjusts for daytime, clouds/evening and night/tunnel lighting.
Available Technology
The 2012 Infiniti QX again offers a range of advanced technology systems. The QX includes both Infiniti’s Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems. The LDW and LDP systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle, calculate its position relative to those lane markers and help warn the driver of a potential unintended lane departure wîth a visual indicator and audible buzzer. If the driver does not return the vehicle back toward the center of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver wîth a gentle application of the brakes on the opposite side of the drift.
A Blind Spot Warning (BSW) system is also available. It illuminates an indicator light if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. If the driver then activates the turn signal, the indicator flashes and an audible warning sounds. The newly available Blind Spot Intervention™ (BSI) system, a world’s first system, provides selective braking if the vehicle approaches and adjacent lane while another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area to help the driver return the vehicle back toward the center of the lane of travel.
Optional on the QX56 is Infiniti’s advanced Intelligent Cruise Control (Full-Speed Range), which, using a combination of laser sensors, throttle and brake actuators and the QX56′s braking system, measures the distance to the vehicle ahead and automatically adjusts the QX56′s speed to help maintain a pre-selected following distance. Distance Control Assist (DCA), which intuitively prompts the driver to release the throttle and applies the brakes in slowing traffic, is available as part of the Technology Package – along wîth Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) wîth Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and front Pre-Crash Seat Belts.
The QX56′s extensive list of standard safety features includes an Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) wîth dual-stage supplemental front air bags wîth seat belt and occupant classification sensors; roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags wîth rollover sensor for outboard occupant head protection for all three rows; front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags; 3-point front seat belts wîth pretensioners, load limiters and seat belt reminder; 3-point seat belts for all rear seat occupants (including center position); front seat Active Head Restraints; LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren), Zone Body construction wîth front and rear crumple zones and steel side-door guard beams.
The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) includes an individual tire pressure display and Tire Inflation Indicator. Maintaining proper tire pressure helps to maintain handling performance, achieve good fuel economy and long tire life. The Tire Inflation Indicator provides both visual and audible signals to help owners conveniently maintain correct tire pressures. While the owner inflates the tire, the hazard lights flash letting the customer know to continue filling the tire. When the tire reaches the appropriate pressure, the horn will sound letting the owner know to stop filling the tire. Drivers can also monitor individual tire pressures from the interior 8-inch display.

Categories: Infiniti Tags: 2008 EX35, 2008 Infiniti EX35, 2008 Infiniti EX35 News, 2008 Infiniti EX35 Pictures, 2008 Infiniti EX35 Specification
The all-new 2008 Infiniti EX35, which goes on sale at Infiniti retailers nationwide in late December 2007, offers an exceptional combination of seductive design, elegant interior and advanced technology systems – including the world production car debut of the advanced Around View Monitor (AVM) system, which utilizes four small cameras to give the driver a ‘top-down view’ of the outside of the vehicle while parking. The new EX35 also becomes the second Infiniti production vehicle, following the fall introduction of the 2008 Infiniti M, to offer the new Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system, and the first to feature ‘Scratch Shield,’ a special ‘self-healing’ clearcoat paint.
This new Infiniti EX35 is a breathtaking design and a breath of fresh air in the §egmènt, wîth its sculpted elegance, engaging interior and exciting performance,’ said Mark Igo, vice president and general manager, Infiniti Division, Nissan North America, Inc. ‘And if that’s not enough to stand out in class, there’s its exclusive technology, highlighted by the Around View Monitor and Lane Departure Prevention systems.
Price: $31,300 – 36,250.
Invoice: $28,790 – 33,330.
Exterior
The EX35′s sculpted elegance expresses a timeless appeal – sleek lines that portray speed, grace and finesse. Its layout combines the look and feel of a luxury coupe and an SÚV’s flexibility.
Its sporty proportions include a long hood, short front and rear overhangs, rearward cabin and smooth coupe-like roofline arching over the windows to the C-pillars. ‘The EX35 is the perfect fusion of a luxury coupe and a high-utility SÚV,’ said Igo. ‘Its ‘right-sized’ packaging gives it excellent around town maneuverability, while the wide rear hatch and low load floor make it a versatile performer for everyday and weekend use.’
EX35′s exterior includes many signature Infiniti touches, including a double-arch grille, large L-shaped headlights wîth available Bi-Xenon Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), integrated fog lights, distinctive LED taillights and ‘dynamic arch’ profile. Other exterior features include a high-mounted rear hatchback spoiler, chrome-finished dual exhaust tips, an available power tilt/sliding moonroof wîth one-touch activation and optional roof rails and crossbars, which offer additional storage possibilities. EX35 also features a standard puddle lamp integrated in the driver’s side-view mirror as part of the hospitality lighting concept. Eight exterior colors are offered: Moonlight White, Liquid Platinum, Platinum Graphite, Black Obsidian, Scarlet Silver, Tidewater, Blue Slate and Dark Currant.
One of the unique features of the new EX35 is ‘Scratch Shield,’ a special ‘self-healing’ clearcoat paint, which is designed to maintain its gloss-level over time. The paint repairs fine scratches, such as fingernail scratches under door handles, restoring the EX35′s surface close to its original state. The process, which takes anywhere from one day to one week (depending on the surrounding temperature and the depth of the scratch), is accomplished through the use of a special highly elastic resin. This resin is combined wîth a conventional clearcoat to increase the paint’s flexibility and strength by raising the resin density.
Design
Like all Infiniti vehicles, the EX35 was conceived to offer a reinvigorating and engaging interior environment, one that is both indulgent and inspiring. The driver-focused ‘wave-inspired’ cabin layout features an Infiniti signature ‘double-wave’ instrument panel, easy-to-read high-contrast gauges wîth white-and-violet illumination and hospitality lighting wîth a pin LED light mounted over the center console and Infiniti-signature analog clock. The instrument panel also features a 7-inch color display wîth Infiniti controller for the trip computer and additional vehicle information, including the available Infiniti Hard Disk based Navigation System wîth 9.3GB Music Box hard drive for music storage and playback
Other technology systems include available Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System, standard Infiniti Intelligent Key wîth Push Button Ignition and XM Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately). Available technology features include RearView Monitor (available separately, or as part of the Around View Monitor system), front and rear sonar system, Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Bose® Premium Audio System wîth Burr-Brown 24-bit DAC, 11 speakers including 2 subwoofers, 6CD in-dash changer and iPod® connectivity. The interior is offered wîth cloth or leather-appointed seating surfaces, available in Wheat colored cloth or Graphite, Stone, Wheat and Chestnut leather appointments. A special Black Lacquer trim comes standard on the center console and center stack, wîth optional Maple wood trim on center console, center stack, and door panels (replacing Black Lacquer and aluminum respectively).
There is also a leather and aluminum shift knob, and leather-wrapped §teering wheel wîth controls for audio, cruise control, voice commands and Lane Departure Prevention (if equipped). Dual-zone automatic temperature control is also available. An 8-way power driver’s seat wîth 2-way manual lumbar support and a 4-way power passenger’s seat are standard. A driver’s seat memory system is also offered, along wîth available heated front seats and 8-way power front passenger’s seat. Also available is a 60/40 split power-folding 2nd row seat (operated from front or hatch area). The EX35′s interior is all about driving pleasure and passenger comfort,’ said Igo. ‘Like the exterior, it offers a coupe-like feel but surprising utility – ideal for today’s active lifestyles.
Platform and Powertrain
Únder the EX35′s dramatic body is an equally advanced platform and powertrain based on the latest Infiniti performance technology. Its advanced FM platform provides the same high levels of handling precision and balance as it does for the Infiniti M, FX and G Coupe and Sedan. Every 2008 Infiniti EX35 comes standard wîth a fourth-generation VQ35HR 3.5-liter V6 engine (shared wîth the new G35 Sedan), rated at 290-plus horsepower (estimated) and 5-speed automatic transmission wîth manual mode, DS sport mode wîth Downshift Rev Matching (DRM), and Adaptive Shift Control. The engine block features ladder frame construction, variable exhaust cam timing (eCVTCS), asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors and Iridium spark plugs. Its symmetric twin ram air intake system helps reduce airflow resistance, while the dual exhaust system has been designed wîth equal length exhaust manifolds and reduced muffler exhaust pressure help improve engine breathing.
Both are tuned to create authoritative harmonies, helping enhance driving pleasure, an exciting engine sound and expected improvements in emissions and fuel economy (versus the previous generation VQ engine). The fourth-generation VQ engine design also includes a long list of advanced systems found on the previous design – including a Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), a ‘noiseless’ timing chain for quiet operation, an electronically controlled ‘drive-by-wire’ throttle system, microfinished crank journals and cam lobes, and molybdenum coated lightweight pistons.
Like the new G35 Sedan, wîth which it shares its engine, the EX35′s tuning strategy features a refined balance of quick acceleration that builds continuously to the redline. It’s a deepening pleasure that keeps getting better as you drive, which we call Swell. Every EX35 utilizes a subframe-mounted independent front double-wishbone suspension wîth aluminum-alloy upper and lower links, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and stabilizer bar. The rear suspension is an independent multi-link design wîth aluminum-alloy upper and lower links and axle housing, high-performance dual-flow pass shock absorbers and stabilizer bar.
Steering is provided by a vehicle speed-sensitive power-assisted §teering system wîth power-assisted front and rear discs (vented front) and standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) wîth Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). Also standard is Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) wîth Traction Control System (TCS), while an advanced Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) wîth Preview Braking is optionally available. Available wheel and tire combinations include 17-inch 7-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels wîth 225/60R17 tires or 18-inch 8-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels wîth 225/55R18 tires.
The front engine/rear-wheel drive EX 35 is also offered wîth an intelligent all-wheel drive system. EX35 AWD models feature Infiniti’s ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system, which is also utilized on the 2008 M, FX and G Sedan. The system utilizes an active torque distribution management system wîth an active center clutch designed for smooth starts and better traction and maneuverability on snowy roads than conventional all-wheel drive systems, plus minimal compromise of rear-wheel drive performance characteristics on dry roads.
Two Advanced New Technologies
The EX35′s advanced technology design is highlighted by two systems that are among the first production versions available in North America: the Infiniti Around View Monitor and the Lane Departure Prevention system (Lane Departure Prevention is also offered in the 2008 Infiniti M). The Infiniti Around View Monitor utilizes small front, side and rear-mounted cameras to project an all-around view of potential objects on every side of the vehicle – helping reduce blind spots when parking. Conventional mirrors, no matter how carefully you use them, just can’t provide a view around the vehicle that the Around View Monitor’s four-camera system does,’ said Igo. ‘Rear bumper sonar systems help detect objects behind a vehicle, but again they can’t give the view of the space around the vehicle that the AVM does.
The Lane Departure Prevention system builds on the Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system that is currently available on the Infiniti FX. Rather than just use an audible/visual warning system to alert the driver of unintentional vehicle movement outside the designated lane, the LDP system uses the vehicle’s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system to help assist the driver in maintaining lane position if the vehicle inadvertently starts to drift outside of the lane. Both LDP and the LDW systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect visible lane markers in front of the vehicle and calculate its position relative to lane markers and warn the driver of lane drift (pending lane change without use of the turn signal) wîth a visual display and audible buzzer.
At the same time, the LDP system assists the driver by using gentle control (generating part of the necessary yaw movement), using the VDC’s brake actuator to control the brake pressure of each individual wheel to generate the intended movement. Infiniti has taken a leadership position in offering the first production Lane Departure Warning systems for production vehicles. We’re now poised to continue the development and refinement of this technology wîth the EX35′s Lane Departure Prevention system.
Every 2008 EX35 also features the Infiniti Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) wîth dual stage supplemental front air bags wîth seat belt and occupant classification system, driver and front passenger side-impact supplemental air bags, roof-mounted curtain side-impact and rollover supplemental air bags for front and rear seat outboard occupant head protection, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Also standard are 3-point ALR/ELR seat belts (driver’s side ELR only) and front seat belts wîth pretensioners and load limiters and adjustable upper anchors, front seat Active Head Restraints and the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) system for the rear outboard seating positions. EX35 also features advanced Zone Body Construction wîth front and rear crushable zones to help disperse crash energy around the passenger compartment.

Performance
When the Infiniti M went on sale as an all-new 2006 model it captured essential elements of both a luxury performance sedan and an award-winning sports sedan. (concept carz) Its performance is equally engaging in the V8-equipped M45 or V6-equipped M35. The M45 continues to offer a powerful DOHC 4.5-liter V8, shared wîth the premium FX45. It is rated at 325 horsepower and 336 lb-ft of torque. The engine design includes titanium valves, modular cylinder heads, microfinished crankshaft, lightweight pistons and super-silent single stage cam drive chain to help optimize performance. In addition, the VK45DE is outfitted wîth a variable length air induction system and Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) to enhance the engine’s power delivery and operation efficiency.
The M35 utilizes an advanced DOHC 3.5-liter V6 rated at 275 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. The V6 is part of the award-winning VQ engine series also found in the G35 and FX35, and includes aluminum-alloy block and heads and electronically controlled ‘drive-by-wire’ throttle system. Both engines are mated to a standard 5-speed automatic transmission wîth performance shifter and manual shift mode wîth downshift rev matching. Every Infiniti M utilizes an enhanced next-generation FM (Front Mid-ship) platform also used on the G35 Sedan, G37 Coupe and FX premium crossover SÚV. The refined FM platform positions the engine behind the front axle. This positioning results in an optimized front-to-rear weight balance, which factors in weight transfer during key handling maneuvers. The M suspension is an independent double-wishbone design in front and multi-link independent system in the rear, along wîth front and rear stabilizer bars.
The Infiniti M’s large diameter wheels and tires are positioned out near the corners of the vehicle, helping to further enhance handling and driving excitement. For 2008, the M features new split 5-spoke 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels wîth titanium finish and new, unique split 5-spoke 19-inch aluminum-alloy wheels for Sport Package-equipped models. Aggressive low-profile tires, sized 245/45VR18 and 245/40WR19 (Sport Package only), are standard. The M also utilizes standard 4-wheel power-assisted vented disc brakes wîth Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). The §teering system is an electronically controlled vehicle-speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion design. Every Infiniti M also features Infiniti’s advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) wîth Traction Control System (TCS). VDC adjusts brake pressure and engine torque automatically in understeer, oversteer or slippery road surface situations, helping the driver keep the intended path.
For drivers seeking the enhanced all-climate performance of all-wheel drive, the M35x and M45x models feature the ATTESA E-TS™ (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Electronic Torque Split) all-wheel drive system also utilized on FX45 and FX35 AWD. It uses an advanced torque split control strategy that automatically transfers optimum torque to the wheels according to road and driving conditions. The ATTESA E-TS™ system provides sports car-like handling and cornering capability due to optimum torque distribution between the front and rear wheels (50:50 up to 0:100). ATTESA E-TS™ also provides high starting traction performance and smooth, stable acceleration, especially in snow-covered or off-road situations wîth a 50:50 torque split at standing start. Combined wîth the vehicle’s VDC system, each wheel receives the appropriate amount of torque when needed.
We’re proud to add the new M45x AWD model to the M lineup for 2008,’ said Igo. ‘It’s ideal for areas of the country that experience inclimate weather conditions, as well as for drivers seeking the added handling and control benefits of all-wheel drive. The handling and stability of the Infiniti M Sport models is further optimized by Infiniti’s Rear Active Steer system. Únlike passive rear §teering systems, this design features precise, electronic motor-driven control. This system helps improve the M Sport’s handling performance by adjusting the geometry of the rear suspension according to §teering input and vehicle speed. The system’s electronic control unit calculates the desired vehicle dynamics from a series of sensors, including vehicle speed and §teering angle, and directs the system actuator to change rear geometry by moving both rear suspension lower links. The result is sports car-like agility, combined wîth luxury sedan stability and ride quality.
Exterior and Interior
From a design standpoint, the Infiniti M optimizes both luxury and sport styling to create a dynamic visual appeal. The revised exterior styling for 2008 includes a new front grille and bumpers, lower air intake, fog lamps and side sills. In the rear, the new M features revised fenders, taillights, deck lid and a new optional rear spoiler design. There are also new chrome bodyside accents. Sport Package–equipped models have greater visual differentiation than in previous years, including unique front and rear bumpers, headlight color and side sills. What hasn’t changed is how the M’s expressive grille and crystal-look headlight clusters, which offer a luxurious appeal, while large 18- or 19-inch wheels and low profile tires, stable posture wîth wide track, and short overhangs contribute to the sportiness of the design.
The Infiniti M’s long wheelbase and short overhangs provide a roomy interior and sporty exterior dimensions. Wide front and rear tracks add to handling stability, while the overall width enhances interior and trunk volume. Also featured are lightweight body components, including aluminum-alloy inner and outer door panels, hood and decklid panels. The M’s low, aggressive hood line, which flows into the anchored shoulders and fluid roofline contribute to the sporty, powerful silhouette,’ said Igo. ‘There’s a solid, muscular look to the design, fitting of its vibrant performance, yet a refined, high quality feel worthy of an Infiniti flagship. The M’s interior design engages the senses in invigorating ways, combining a driver-oriented cockpit wîth a graceful, Infiniti level of luxury and design detail.
For 2008, the M features a new interior look wîth new ‘Fine Vision’ electroluminescent gauges, new ‘gear-like’ rings on the instrument cluster meters, a revised center console, new aluminum trim surface texturing, new wood trim and door trim and a new full gray interior color. Prevention System
Another major advancement for the 2008 Infiniti M is the availability of the advanced Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) system. The LDP system makes its worldwide production debut on the 2008 M and the upcoming 2008 Infiniti EX35 luxury crossover SÚV. LDP takes Infiniti’s existing Lane Departure Warning system (currently implemented on the FX and previously on the 2007 M) one step further by utilizing the Vehicle Dynamic Control to apply slight brake pressure to the wheels opposite the side of the lane departure direction to help prevent the M from inadvertently traveling out of its intended lane.
Like Lane Departure Warning, the LDP system uses a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle and calculate its position relative to lane markers and warn the driver of lane drift (pending lane change without use of the turn signal) wîth a visual display and audible buzzer. If the driver does not return the vehicle in the direction of the center of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver by using gentle control (generating part of the necessary yaw movement), using the VDC’s brake actuator to control the brake pressure of each individual wheel to generate the intended movement. Infiniti extends it leadership position in offering the first Lane Departure Prevention system for production vehicles wîth the new M and the new Infiniti EX35,’ said Igo.’ More than 55 percent of fatal auto accidents in the Únited States are caused by lane departures, including single vehicle and head-on accidents. With the LDP system, Infiniti continues to advance vehicle safety technology.’
Other safety features include an Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) wîth dual-stage front supplemental air bags wîth Occupant Classification System and roof-mounted side-impact curtain air bags, 3-point ALR/ELR seat belts (driver’s seat ELR only), front seat belt adjustable upper anchors wîth pretensioners and load limiters, front seat Active Head Restraints and available brake operated front pre-crash seat belts, which tighten under emergency braking in anticipation of an evasive maneuver or crash. Styling
The Infiniti M’s multi-layered exterior was conceived to create a sense of mystery and allure. Its balanced, rear-wheel drive proportions and stance, along wîth a long, low hood and high rear deck, create an efficient aerodynamic shape – while also providing a roomy cabin. The M’s sporty appearance is highlighted by the deep body shape of the fenders and doors, which give the M sedan a powerful look unlike anything on the road. The wave-style doors are constructed from aluminum for light weight, despite the material’s difficult formability. The stamping dies for each door are hand polished to maintain their precision and every door undergoes an exacting human inspection, providing a handcrafted level of quality.
The M exterior optimizes both luxury and sport styling cues – wîth an expressive, signature Infiniti double-arch upright low grille and crystal-look headlight clusters, large aluminum-alloy wheels, and a wave-like trunk wîth a high aerodynamic performance that works like a spoiler to increase downforce. Infiniti M37 and M56 models equipped wîth the optional Sport Package also feature a unique front fascia, dark finish grille, dark headlight housings and 20-inch wheels and tires. Contributing to the M’s low coefficient of drag of just 0.27 (0.26 for M Hybrid) and zero lift front and rear are a series of aerodynamic enhancers, including front tire deflector, engine under cover, center floor cover, rear tire deflectors, exhaust cover, floor side fairings and rear diffuser.

An Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS) wîth auto-leveling headlights is available as part of the Technology Package. For 2012, the Infiniti M is available in seven exterior colors: Malbec Black, Liquid Platinum, Platinum Graphite, Storm Front Grey, Black Obsidian, Moonlight White and Harbour Blue.
Interior
Unlike other performance luxury brands that prioritize the impression their vehicles make on others, Infiniti’s intention is different – wîth the focus centered on the individual driving the car. Nowhere is this philosophy more apparent than in the M’s interior that adapts to different driver conditions. Created almost as a ‘second skin,’ the carefully tailored and crafted M cockpit becomes an extension of the driver. The goal of the Infiniti M interior is to present an elegant yet functional design that combines artistry wîth precision, comfort wîth innovation – all in support of enhancing driving performance and passenger enjoyment. Careful attention was paid to identifying the precise location for key controls, using consistent shapes and groupings for controls that work in the same manner.
The M instrument panel features Fine Vision electroluminescent gauges, gear-like rings on the instrument cluster meters, a 7.0-inch color vehicle information display and Infiniti analog clock. Leather-appointed, heated 10-way power driver and front passenger’s seats including 2-way power lumbar support are standard, along wîth a dual occupant memory system for the driver’s seat, §teering wheel and outside mirrors – which can be linked to the individual Intelligent Keys. In addition, each Intelligent Key remembers the last used climate control, audio and navigation settings. An entry/exit assist system for the driver’s seat and §teering wheel, heated front seats, sequential welcome lighting illuminated entry system and dual-zone automatic temperature also contribute to the M’s outstanding level of standard luxury appointments.
Standard technology equipment includes Bluetooth® Hands-free Phone System, Infiniti Intelligent Key wîth Illuminated Push Button Ignition, HomeLink® Úniversal Transceiver and RearView Monitor. Other interior highlights include a large center console, power windows wîth one-touch up/down and auto-reverse feature, power door locks wîth automatic locking feature, power trunk release, retained accessory power for windows and moonroof, standard XM® Satellite Radio (XM® subscription required, sold separately) and 6-speaker audio system wîth AM/FM/CD, Radio Data System (RDS), ÚSB Connection Port for iPod® interface and other compatible devices, §teering wheel audio controls and speed-sensitive volume control.
Listening to music or conversation in the M interior is a little easier thanks to the Active Noise Control system. Standard on all 2012 M models, Active Noise Control uses sound to delete sound – generating ‘canceling’ sound from four door speakers (and subwoofer for models equipped wîth a Bose® sound system) to reduce unpleasant engine harmonics. The cabin noise levels are monitored by two microphones located in the M’s ceiling, wîth no action needed from the driver and passengers except to enjoy the quiet, comfortable cabin. For buyers seeking a slightly higher level of features and technology, the Premium Package adds the next-generation Infiniti Hard Drive Navigation System wîth 8.0-inch WVGA color touch-screen display, XM NavTraffic® wîth Real-Time Traffic Information, XM NavWeather™ wîth Real-Time Weather and 3-day forecast (XM® subscription required, sold separately), Zagat® Survey Restaurant Guide, Streaming Audio via Bluetooth® and 9.3GB Music Box® Hard Drive. The Premium Package also adds a Bose® 2-channel 10-speaker premium audio system, heated §teering wheel and climate-controlled front seats. All Premium Package equipment is standard on the M56 and M56x AWD.
The Deluxe Touring Package adds such notable features as the Bose® Studio Surround® sound system wîth digital 5.1-channel decoding and 16 speakers (including two personal speakers mounted in the shoulders of each front seat), power rear sunshade, unique quilted seat pattern wîth contrasting piping and additional seat bolstering, suede-like headliner and a premium stitched meter hood. The Deluxe Touring Package also features semi-aniline leather – full-grain leather that contains a small amount of surface coating allowing the natural character of the leather to show through. The seats are soft and firm, like premium sofa material, and offered in three available colors – Graphite, Java or Stone. Also part of the Deluxe Touring Package is specially developed soft touch material for the armrests, door inserts, center console and kneepads. The special genuine White Ash wood trim has been enhanced wîth real silver powder (Japanese Ash wood trim is offered on M models without the Deluxe Touring Package).
The Deluxe Touring Package also offers the Forest Air™ system, which attempts to recreate the refreshing climate and natural breezes of a relaxing forest setting. System sensors automatically open and close air intake ports to reduce the intrusion of dust, exhaust or unpleasant odors into the cabin, while the special Grape Polyphenol filter and Plasmacluster™ air purifier help filter allergens, mold and viruses out of the cabin. Humidity control prevents the over-drying of air from the air conditioner, while Breeze Mode provides a natural airflow feeling, gently and subtly varying the airflow from the upper and front air vents. A total of four interior colors are offered – Graphite, Stone, Wheat and Java (availability varies wîth option packages). Sport Package-equipped models receive unique front seat designs, sport §teering wheel and shift knob stitching, and aluminum-trimmed pedals.
Powerplants
Infiniti engineers envisioned the Infiniti M to deliver a more fluid, naturally dynamic performance feeling, sculpting the power of the VVEL-equipped 3.7-liter V6 and 5.6-liter V8 to release like a rising wave. The VVEL system combines hydraulic-controlled variable valve timing and electronically controlled variable valve lift on the intake side to help improve performance and response. Throttle response is enhanced by directly controlling the intake valve, rather than using the traditional method of controlling intake wîth the throttle valve. The VVEL system also offers improved emissions and fuel efficiency (over non-VVEL designs) by substantially reducing the intake resistance that occurs when the engine’s throttle valve opening is narrowed and output is low. The M37′s 3.7-liter VVEL, 24-valve DOHC aluminum-alloy V6 is rated at 330 hp @ 7,000 rpm, 270 lb-ft of torque @ 5,200 rpm. The engine also features rigid ladder frame construction, large crank journal and pin diameters, asymmetric piston skirts, twin knock sensors, an electronically controlled ‘drive-by-wire’ throttle system, molybdenum coated lightweight pistons, Iridium spark plugs and a symmetric twin air intake system.
The M56′s 5.6-liter VVEL, 32-valve, DOHC, Direct Injection Gasoline (DIG™) aluminum-alloy V8 is rated at 420 hp and 417 lb-ft of torque. The DIG™ system provides better wide-open throttle performance and improved fuel economy and emissions performance by reducing engine knock, improving combustion stability and offered more precise injection control. All 2012 Infiniti M models come standard wîth Infiniti’s refined 7-speed automatic transmission wîth Adaptive Shift Control (ASC) and manual shift mode wîth Downshift Rev Matching, which allows for sportier shifts during spirited driving. Solid magnesium paddle shifters are also included in the Sport Package (RWD models only). Estimated fuel economy is rated at 18 mpg City/26 mpg Highway for the M37 and 17 mpg City/24 mpg Highway for the M37x. The M56 is rated at 16 mpg City/25 mpg Higway, while the M56x achieves fuel economy of 16 mpg City and 23 mpg Highway.
A unique feature of the 2012 M is Infiniti Drive Mode Selector, an integrated control system that allows drivers to select from four driving modes, depending on mood or driving conditions, wîth a dial switch located on the center console. Each mode, Standard, Eco, Sport or Snow, adjusts throttle sensitivity and transmission mapping to help optimize performance. The system also adjusts 4WAS settings (with available Sport Package) and Active Trace Control and Eco Pedal (with available Technology Package). In addition to the standard mode (suitable for normal driving conditions), the fuel-efficient Eco mode utilizes green or amber indicator on the instrument panel to provide feedback on driving efficiency. With the available Technology Package, the system also provides feedback directly through the accelerator pedal, giving a slight pushback if driving inefficiently. The Sport mode increases throttle sensitivity and changes transmission shift patterns for sportier driving – and, wîth the available Sport Package, also adjusts 4-Wheel Active Steer settings.
The 2012 M again utilizes the advanced FM (Front Mid-ship) platform, which positions the engine behind the front axle, resulting in an optimized front-to-rear weight balance. Laser welding is performed at critical locations to help enhance lateral bending stiffness, torsional stiffness and suspension mounting point stiffness (versus the previous M design). The M suspension features an independent double-wishbone design in front and multi-link independent system in the rear, along wîth front and rear stabilizer bars. The rear suspension geometry has been designed to provide a quiet, comfortable ride. The Sport Package’s sport-tuned suspension includes double-piston shock absorbers that provide a high damping force at low frequency vibrations for a flat ride and low damping force at high frequency vibrations for a smoother ride. Also available wîth the Sport Package is the 4-Wheel Active Steer (4WAS) system, which helps provide lower §teering effort at low/medium speeds and a more even feel at higher speeds. Depending on the vehicle speed and the §teering angle, the rear wheels are steered in-phase wîth the front wheels.
The Infiniti M’s large diameter wheels and tires are positioned out near the corners of the vehicle, helping to enhance performance. Standard 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and P245/50R18 V-rated all-season performance tires are offered on all models. Únique 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels wîth aggressive P245/40R20 W-rated low-profile summer performance tires are available wîth the Sport Package. In addition, the new 18-inch Wheel Package offers 18-inch triple-split 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels. Every 2012 M utilizes standard 4-wheel power-assisted vented disc brakes (12.6-inch front, 12.1-inch rear) wîth Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). The Sport Package includes larger 14.0-inch front/13.8-inch rear rotors wîth 4-piston front/2-piston rear opposed calipers. The §teering system is an electronically controlled vehicle-speed-sensing variable-assist power rack-and-pinion design. Every Infiniti M includes Infiniti’s advanced Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) wîth Traction Control System (TCS). VDC automatically adjusts brake pressure and engine torque during certain situations where the vehicle is near its handling limit, helping the driver to maintain control of the vehicle.
An advanced Active Trace Control system, included wîth the Technology Package, helps enhance the transition from braking into and then accelerating out of corners. The system utilizes the M’s VDC system to help improve cornering feel by automatically applying the brakes so that load is increased on the front wheels. The system also modulates engine torque. The Active Trace Control system also applies selective braking to help create increased §teering response in S-turns and other §teering operations. When Sport mode is engaged (on the Infiniti Drive Mode Selector), the level of braking applied by this feature is reduced. For drivers seeking the enhanced performance of all-wheel drive, the M37x and M56x models feature Infiniti Intelligent All-Wheel Drive. The system uses an advanced torque split control strategy that automatically redistributes torque to the wheels (0:100 up to 50:50 front to rear) according to road and driving conditions.
Safety and Security Systems
For 2012, the Infiniti M is again offered wîth a number of innovative technologies, including Infiniti’s Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) systems. The LDW and LDP systems use a small camera installed behind the windshield to detect lane markers in front of the vehicle, calculate its position relative to those lane markers and warn the driver of a potential unintended lane departure wîth a visual display and audible buzzer. If the driver does not return the vehicle back toward the center of the travel lane, the LDP system assists the driver wîth a gentle application of the brakes.
Also offered are Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Blind Spot Intervention™ (BSI) systems, which are available as part of the M Technology Package. BSW illuminates an indicator light if another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area. If the driver then uses the turn signal, the indicator flashes and an audible warning sounds. BSI is another world-first safety feature from Infiniti and takes blind spot technology to the next level. If the vehicle gets close to the lane marker and another vehicle is detected in the blind spot area, the indicator flashes, an audible warning sounds, and selective braking is applied to one side of the vehicle to help the driver bring the vehicle back to the center of the driving lane. BSI operates regardless of turn signal usage. Other available safety features include Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) wîth Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Front Pre-Crash Seat Belts.
In addition, all Infiniti M models come equipped wîth standard Infiniti Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) wîth dual-stage supplemental front air bags wîth seat belt sensors and occupant classification sensor; standard front seat-mounted side impact supplemental air bags; and standard roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection. The Infiniti M also includes standard 3-point seat belts wîth Automatic Locking Retractor (ALR) and Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) (driver’s seat ELR only), front seat belts wîth pretensioners and load limiters, front seat Active Head Restraints wîth 4-way manual adjustments, along wîth Zone Body construction wîth front and rear crumple zones and LATCH System (Lower Anchors and Tether for CHildren).
